Did you know that bleach can be used to sanitize canned food before opening, and to purify water?
To Sanitize caned food:
Thoroughly wash and disinfect the can. (Use a diluted solution of one part bleach to ten parts water.) From ready.gov/
To sanitize dishes:
The correct procedure for sanitizing dishes with Clorox® Regular-Bleach is to first wash and rinse dishes, glassware, and utensils. After washing, soak for at least 2 minutes in a solution of 2 teaspoons of bleach per 1 gallon of water, drain and air dry.
To purify water
(boiling water to make it safe to drink is always the best method).
Bleach will destroy most (but NOT all!) disease causing organisms.
To use household bleach for disinfecting water: Add two drops of bleach per quart or liter of water. Stir it well. Let the mixture stand for a half hour before drinking.
If the water is cloudy with suspended particles: First filter the water as best you can. Double the amount of bleach you add to the water.
Bleach will deteriorate over time so be sure to rotate stock.
After it has been left to stand. If you pour the water back and forth between containers, to aerate it, the water will taste better.
